Abstract

Corrosion is a major challenge in the maritime industry, where the interaction between steel and seawater causes significant degradation that affects a ship’s aesthetics, economic value, and service life. This damage is driven by environmental factors, particularly acidity (pH) and temperature, which play a crucial role in determining the corrosion rate; therefore, anti-fouling coatings are essential for protection. This study employs a systematic review approach of 15 relevant scientific journals from 2021 to 2026 to analyze the influence of these variables and the effectiveness of protective coatings. The analysis shows that seawater with low pH and high temperature significantly accelerates the rate of damage, while anti-fouling coatings have proven reliable in isolating metal surfaces. In conclusion, a strong correlation was found between pH/temperature and corrosion, making antifouling technology a vital solution for controlling the degradation of steel materials.
